You’ve likely heard to take things one day, one moment, at a time. Life is (extremely) overwhelming at times, and keeping your mind focused on the “now” can help in decreasing feelings of anxiety and depression. Focusing solely (or mostly) on the present can aid in keeping you grounded. If practiced consistently, can lower the “need” to control your situation, which consequently lowers the panicky feeling often associated with “loss of control”. Your focus can become more intentional, more confident as well.
Getting through your to-do lists often work the same way. Whether you’re looking to improve yourself, learn something new, or just carve in some free time for hobbies, if your goal is to read every day, try taking it one chapter at a time.
One Chapter a Day usually will only take 15-30 minutes, or perhaps even less depending on the book. And when you set aside time for just one chapter, you will likely find time to read a few more, getting you through the book faster. A Chapter a Day can be much less intimidating than similar goals, and a lot more doable. Creating a consistent time helps you to wind down and focus, so I recommend a nightly reading. Before you know it, you’ll be working your way through your favorite series, the classics, or those “want to read” and “must read” lists you’ve been putting aside! | ོ

I’ve been dealing with a lot lately that has left me feeling more exhausted and worn down than usual. There have been numerous days stained with tears, wrapped in confusion, frustration, and hurt. Some days I’ve had to push through in the morning just to get out of bed and get to work, to practice self-care, and to give myself and those around me the love and attention that is needed.
Through it all, when I have stopped long enough to focus on things outside of myself - to feel the sun on my face, the breeze across my shoulder, the flowers swaying in the wind, the rain dripping down a window, the laughter and song from a child - I have momentarily felt such incredible calm and peace. When I have made the time to pray, to meditate, such peace, and even joy and hope, has come upon me. The more I focus on these things, the longer I carry it with me, and the more I have to spread to others.
Why do we feel such a need to walk in the storms of life, when we are freely given safe shelter? Why do we so often focus on the darkness, when this incredible light lives within us? And why do we so often try to battle it alone, when we have One who is stronger, more able, who will carry us through it?
Stop looking down. Start looking up! | ོ
