Work Your Plan

Plan Your Work & Work Your Plan| Blog| Instagram| Leslie Byrd Photography| Ellijay, GA
Lately, as my workload has increased along with my personal creative endeavors, I am finding it more and more difficult to keep track of all I want and need to. Once upon a time I was able to easily recall everything that laid ahead of me. Now, years later, the list of errands and tasks and projects I have seem to come into my memory like a drift of wind, just to breeze away again at the hint of the slightest recall. With the recent surge in the bullet journal trend & planners, I finally decided to give in and see what the fuss was all about.

I’m not usually a consistent person, except for in my inconsistency. Ideas, energy, creativity, all come in spurts, and these spurts are just as inconsistent-sometimes lasting a month or a season, sometimes only a few days or a handful of hours. Therefore, it is incredibly important to me to get things done when I can. This is when that remembering comes in handy.

Write It Down

I’ve always been one for checklists. Back in school (too  many years ago for me to mention here!) I loved having teachers who gave a list of upcoming work, because I was one to get things done early and out of the way, leaving plenty of time for other endeavors. That need for lists carries through to today. Because, while I am not consistent, I am very highly organized, and it seemed to me that if I began writing down & organizing my to-do lists, I could perhaps, be much more productive.

Plan Your Work & Work Your Plan| Blog| Instagram| Leslie Byrd Photography| Ellijay, GAWriting things down tends to increase your chances of doing those things. Planning helps you to organize & prioritize those things, setting goals, eliminating tasks, expanding ideas. It can seem complicated or even unnecessary at first. But when you find the tools that work for you, it makes everything simpler. Yes, it will take your time and commitment to execute. It will also be an extreme help in getting you to where you want to be. And there is just something so incredibly satisfying in checking something off of your list.

Now, don’t get me wrong; I’m not crazy with my lists, and I don’t plan everything-(though, there are times of anxiety when that doesn’t seem like a bad idea.)

My life currently consists of mainly my kids/family, massage therapy, artistic outlets, food, & writing. When creating/looking for my perfect planner, I basically needed to organize two of these: my daily “to-do” list, and my blog writing. It took a bit of trial & error, but I think I’ve finally found it.

Recollections

Plan Your Work & Work Your Plan| Blog| Instagram| Leslie Byrd Photography| Ellijay, GAI tried other planners & printouts, & finally found this one from Michael’s that was simple, beautiful, & works for me. I love the variety of inserts & stickers you can purchase separately, to add to the planner & make it your own. If you need to simplify or expand your journaling/organizing you can, with very little effort.

Change it up to fit your needs.
Decorate.
Prioritize.
Record.

There’s even plenty of space for me to art journal and to jot down quotes and poetry!

“Keeping Busy…”

Photography

“…and making optimism a way of Life.” – Lucille Ball

A great #Quote by an amazing, iconic women, and something I am certainly trying my best to do as I have learned and grown this past year and as I move forward within this current one. I have found myself within so many struggles and amazing battles, as well as within so many blessing and opportunities; I have discovered that so much change has taken place, also.

quote-busy-loving-life
Just within the past sixth months I have enrolled in massage therapy school and I am over halfway through my courses. I have drastically changed my eating habits and diet, as well as my exercise routine, and I’m finding myself slowly gaining better health and strength. Soon my family and I are moving into a new home that will offer us more space and privacy. I have gained new friendships, lost some, and strengthened a few bonds that I’ve formed over the years. Overall, I am so grateful.

There has been so much transformation.

And in the midst of all of this, I find that all though my professional photography has certainly slowed down and more or less taken a hiatus, I am now exploring other sides of photography and rediscovering the finer points of this creative outlet: the setup, the compositions and angles, the candid moments, the fun. I am exploring, as I did in the very beginning, and again as a student, the inventiveness and individuality of photography – how very personal and private and intimate it can be, and then how vulnerable and freeing it can be to open up and share that with others. Even when it is something as simple as raindrops on a flower, which may mean little to a viewer, but holds something deeply meaningful to you… and yet, somehow, it still resonates with them somewhere inside… and there’s a reaction. A smile. Or a memory.  A laugh. A tear. OR some inspiration for themselves.

This is what art and photography is.

And it is amazing.

I know I am not sharing as often here, on my blog. But I would like to invite you all to still come and share the love of photography and life with me.

Happy New Year| Leslie Byrd Photography| Ellijay Georgia Photography| GA Photographer

Thankful for The Old…

2016 brought the official start of Leslie Byrd Photography.

I had an engagement session, two weddings, several portrait sessions, a few family sessions (including one precious newborn), a session with a local band, and a redesign of my website. I am now on Instagram, I’m currently verified on Google, and I’m slowly getting noticed on ViewBug.com and Twitter.

Like most photographers, I have had a slow start. But I am enjoying much of the process, and growing so much along the way. There have been several steps forward, several steps back…and I am SO INCREDIBLY THANKFUL for all who have taken steps with me along the way. You all are amazing, and I cannot wait to see what this next year holds!

Anticipating the New…

Thank you, 2016, and here’s to anticipating whatever 2017 brings!

I am hoping to continue with sessions throughout this new year; I have several ideas in mind, and I look forward to meeting new friends and clients and helping to capture many more memories. I look for opportunities and inspiration everywhere!

And a FREE GIFT for you!

Holiday Freebie!

Christmas, Freebies, Holiday, Photography, Projects

Merry Christmas!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas yesterday! I spent the morning in the mountains with my littles, sipping on hot coffee and watching them excitedly open their presents. (I got a few, too, unexpectedly!) We then took a nice two-hour drive south to visit some of my family for the evening, where we had our annual dinner and played some fun games, before the babies went to stay with their dad and step-family for the remainder of the holiday week.

All-in-all it’s been a nice and eventful holiday, full of love and fun!

I’ve been keeping busy on homework; as some of you know I am currently in school, taking massage therapy courses, and I am trying to get ahead while we are on break. But I am still doing my best to keep the creativity and take some time to myself as well! Photography and art has always been my passion, and I do my best to dedicate at least a few hours each week to this outlet.

Holiday Freebie!

I just need to take a moment, and give a shout out to Photobacks for providing their fans and customers with these awesome FREE snow globe template downloads! To the best of my knowledge, they are still obtainable as of this post; go and get them now while they are still available! And please go to their Facebook page and tell them we sent you!

A Little Gander at Geese in Autumn

Ellijay Georgia, Nature, Photography

Fall Flock-66| Nature Photography| Leslie Byrd Photography Ellijay GAFall Flock

Warm sun…
A cool breeze…
Yellow, orange, and brown foliage float and swirl around gentle sparkling waters.

And a flock of geese find retreat in the North Georgia Mountains on this city park’s riverway.

Here they gather to drink and rest, and, often, to feast upon the birdseed thrown to them by our local town residents or seasonal visitors. It is an absolutely peaceful and beautiful sight. And for those toting a camera as I was this particular day, it is also an awesome opportunity for some gorgeous nature shots of this exquisite and graceful waterfowl.

Water Winged Beauty

A sight almost every bird-watching photographer tries to capture time and time again – the span of open wings from these gorgeous geese.

And I was lucky enough to get several of these shots!

Leslie Byrd Photography| Child Portrait| Ellijay, GeorgiaA Crisp, Autumn Day at the Park

It started like many others… The brilliant round orb, high overhead, the cloudless blue sky and gentle breezes. The air was dry, but the cool temperature refreshing. It was a perfect day for portraiture and play. And I made promises of play-ground time in trade for just a few lovely (and cooperative) posed shots.

As usual, there was not much bargaining actually needed; the green grass and colorful foliage beckoned. And my children are fairly used to my wanting pictures during specific holidays and seasons – the process is now usually quick and familiar; I have them well trained. Ha!

I just love their sweet smiles, their joyful faces, and the love they so often share! And it all really came through in these images!

We picked which side of the park to work and play on, and settled for the first entrance by the main intersection- a section of the park we rarely frequent. It turned out to be the perfect choice!

Natural Props, and Location, Location, Location!

I’ve mentioned it before, and it bears repeating- my favorite thing regarding outdoor sessions, is the never-ending supply of natural props and inspiration!

Almost immediately upon stepping out of our vehicle, we saw this lovely little stump that made the perfect stool for sitting poses! It worked out wonderfully for these Fall Portraits!

When outdoors, remember to keep your eyes open for any interesting or useful natural element around to include and incorporate into your session! Having a creative eye can work wonders for the amateur, hobbyist, and professionals alike, or even for those just starting out… as well as for the client lending a suggestion to their photographer! Parents, family members, friends – don’t forget these are your sessions, too, and you may see something in that bridge or river bank that your photographer didn’t notice or see! Always be ready with suggestions!

Playtime & A Nice Surprise!

After we got in several awesome shots, I let the kids play on one of the playgrounds for a while. There was sliding, climbing, flipping, hanging on the monkey bars… They had a lot of fun! And then we went exploring! We saw a tiny clearing where part of the river could be seen, and we took a few photos in front of it, and then we took a walk further down the river to the very end of the park.

We came to a spot we had never visited before- a circular sidewalk met with natural rock and tree-root steps, down the edge of the river. At the bank we saw a large flock of geese, all across the rock and shallow water, bathing and searching for food, relaxing, swimming, you name it… We quietly sat down at the river-edge and observed these gorgeous birds for quite some time. After a while, the geese decided we were not a threat and came closer to us; we used the opportunity for some photographs.  A nice man came by with bird feed and we were also able to feed the geese and a few other nearby birds. The scene was so gorgeous and serene! All in all it was a beautiful, fun, and rewarding day!

Stay Tuned!

Coming soon I will have a new post showcasing some of the awesome geese images I captured this past weekend along the river – be on the lookout for them!

I also challenge you all to go out and capture your best outdoor Autumn images! Submit them to me using my email – lesliebydphotography@gmail.com – along with a little description; you may just see them in a post in the near future!

Enjoy this gorgeous weather and the beauty that surrounds you! Spend time with your family & friends, and make the best of every moment! Thank you all for taking the time to stop in and to look at my work. I appreciate each and every one of you!
