Philippians 4:6-9 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. ———————————————————- I’ve been dealing with a lot lately that has left me feeling more exhausted and worn down than usual. There have been numerous days stained with tears, wrapped in confusion, frustration, and hurt. Some days I’ve had to push through in the morning just to get out of bed and get to work, to practice self-care, and to give myself and those around me the love and attention that is needed. Through it all, when I have stopped long enough to focus on things outside of myself - to feel the sun on my face, the breeze across my shoulder, the flowers swaying in the wind, the rain dripping down a window, the laughter and song from a child - I have momentarily felt such incredible calm and peace. When I have made the time to pray, to meditate, such peace, and even joy and hope, has come upon me. The more I focus on these things, the longer I carry it with me, and the more I have to spread to others. Why do we feel such a need to walk in the storms of life, when we are freely given safe shelter? Why do we so often focus on the darkness, when this incredible light lives within us? And why do we so often try to battle it alone, when we have One who is stronger, more able, who will carry us through it? Stop looking down.
